How to connect Claude to your WordPress site with WPVibe (2 minutes, free)

The exact steps I used to connect Claude and Claude Code to my WordPress site with the free WPVibe plugin. No passwords, no API keys, about two minutes.

This is how I connected Claude to my own WordPress site with WPVibe. It takes about two minutes, needs no password or API key, and works on any self-hosted WordPress site. I cover both the Claude app and Claude Code, because I use both.

If you want to see what it can do first, read what happened when I tested it against the official WordPress MCP.

Before you start

  • A self-hosted WordPress site where you can install plugins. If your site is on WordPress.com, use their own Claude connector instead.
  • A Claude account. For the Claude app you need a plan that includes custom connectors. Claude Code works from the terminal.
  • A recent backup of your site. WPVibe drafts changes before they go live, but a backup is still the first thing I take before letting any tool touch a live site.

Step 1: install the free WPVibe plugin

  1. Go to wpvibe.ai/start and enter your site address. It sends you to the plugin installer in your own wp-admin. If WordPress asks you to log in first, it brings you back afterwards.
  2. Install and activate WPVibe. Prefer doing it by hand? Search for WPVibe under Plugins, then Add New, or get it from WordPress.org.
  3. WordPress opens its own authorization screen. Click approve. Your site is now linked to your WPVibe account.

That approve screen is WordPress’s built-in application authorization, so you never copy a password or a token anywhere.

Step 2a: connect it in Claude Code

This is the one I used in the reel. Run this once in your terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http wpvibe https://mcp.wpvibe.ai/mcp

Start Claude Code, and the first time it uses WPVibe it opens the sign-in in your browser. Enter your email, then the 6-digit code WPVibe emails you. The code is in the email’s subject line, so you can read it from your phone.

Step 2b: or connect it in the Claude app

  1. In Claude, open Customize in the sidebar, then Connectors.
  2. Click Add, then Add custom connector.
  3. Name it WPVibe and paste this as the server URL: https://mcp.wpvibe.ai/mcp
  4. Leave the OAuth client ID and secret empty, and click Add.
  5. Click Connect on the new WPVibe row and sign in with your email and the 6-digit code.

Claude Desktop shares connectors with your Claude account, so once it is connected on claude.ai it shows up in the desktop app too. If it does not, restart the app.

Step 3: check it works

Start a new chat and paste this:

Use WPVibe to list my connected sites. If none are connected, help me connect one.

Claude should list the site you approved in step 1. If it answers without using WPVibe, check that the connector is switched on in that chat’s tools menu.

Your first real task

Start with something small and ask for a draft, so you can see how it works before anything goes live. This is the prompt I used on my own homepage:

Add a Follow on Instagram button to my homepage hero, linking to [your profile URL], matching my site's style. Do it as a draft and give me a preview link. Don't publish.

WPVibe made a draft copy of my theme, read the hero template, reused my existing button style and gave me a private preview. My live site did not change until I typed publish, and before it went live it checked I had a backup from that day and kept a rollback copy.

Other good first asks:

  • “Which plugins on my site have updates available?”
  • “Draft a post about [topic] and schedule it for Monday.”
  • “Run an SEO check on my homepage and tell me the top three fixes.”

What it can and cannot do

  • Claude works as the WordPress user you approved and cannot go beyond that user’s permissions. Approve with an admin account only if you want admin-level changes.
  • Theme changes happen in a draft with a private preview, and only go live when you say publish.
  • Bulk or destructive actions show a dry run and wait for your approval in the browser.
  • You can disconnect a site, or remove the connector in Claude, at any time.

If something goes wrong

  • The approve screen never appears. A security plugin may be blocking WordPress application passwords. Allow them for your admin user, then try again.
  • Claude says it has no WPVibe tools. In Claude Code, run claude mcp list and check that wpvibe is there. In the app, check the connector is switched on for that chat.
  • A published change does not show. If your host has an edge cache, give it a few minutes or clear the cache from your host’s panel.

The free plan includes every tool and as many sites as you want, with a daily limit on tool calls. The official setup guide is at wpvibe.ai/claude.

No need to comment or DM me about this one. Everything you need is on this page.
