Let Claude read YouTube, Reddit and X with Agent Reach

Claude cannot open most social platforms on its own. Agent Reach is a free, open-source tool that lets it read them. Here is the setup.

Paste a Reddit thread or a YouTube link into Claude and you will often get a polite shrug, or worse, a confident summary of a page it never actually read. Most platforms block the plain fetch. Agent Reach closes that gap: it is a free, open-source reader for YouTube, Reddit, X, Instagram, LinkedIn and a handful of others.

Set it up

  1. Open the Agent Reach repository and follow the install step in its README.
  2. Run agent-reach channels to see which platforms are available and what each one can do.
  3. Try a read that needs no login: agent-reach read <url> with a YouTube or Reddit link.
  4. For a platform that needs an account, run agent-reach login <platform> and sign in yourself in the window that opens.

What actually happens

Some channels work straight away on public pages. Others — Instagram and X in particular — return nothing useful until you are signed in, because the platform serves an empty shell to anyone who is not. You do the signing in; nothing asks Claude for your password.

Check the status of everything with agent-reach doctor --text when a channel stops behaving.

Worth knowing before you rely on it

  • It is read-only. No posting, commenting or messaging, by design.
  • A profile page is not the posts. Getting the bio back does not mean the captions came with it — check what you actually received.
  • Platforms change their defences constantly, so a channel that worked last month can break without warning. That is the platform, not the tool.

Try your own tools first. If Claude can already read the page, you do not need this. Agent Reach is for the gap.
